In the 11-minute footnotes for Jay-Z’s heartfelt “4:44” single, he opens up about his relationship with wifey Beyonceé and professes his love for her. Hov also recounts meeting his father for the first time and how that helped him realize how special his relationship with Bey was.
“What I thought when I met my dad was, ‘Oh, I’m free to love now,’” Hov explains in the video. “But it’s like, ‘Yeah, but how are you gonna do it? You wanna do it, I get it, but how are you gonna do it? You’ve never won this before. No one informs you how to do it. You don’t even have the tools to do it.’ ‘I don’t know. But I’m gonna do it.’ That’s why I say, ‘You matured faster than me. I wasn’t ready.”
Along with Jigga’s annotations, the footnotes include commentary from Kendrick Lamar, Chris Paul, Will Smith, Chris Rock, Meek Mill, Michael B. Jordan, and Aziz Ansari. Each individual speaks on experiences in their relationship and how they can relate to certain parts of “4:44.”
Hov’s infidelities were a secret to many people before the elevator incident with Solange, which brought it to light. On “4:44” Hov gets personal and goes into full detail of his flaws as a husband, human, and partner, while also apologizing to Bey.
These footnotes follow “The Story of OJ” footnotes. Earlier this week Hov announced his “4:44 Tour” and Friday at 4:44 pm EST he will drop the visuals for “Bam” featuring Damian Marley.
