Roc Nation Signs DJ Mustard (News)

Congrats to DJ Mustard, well deserved!

“What I wanted to do was just put out an album and go tour off of my own album, and have people come see me like they see David Guetta,” Mustard says in the clip below. “What I’m doing now is just trying to convert over and to just show people that I can do more than just club records.”

Another Day, Another Deal: Jay-Z & Roc Nation Sign With UMG

Jay-Z

I imagine this is how it works. Jay-Z gets a massages, makes millions. Jay-Z enjoys a Cuban cigar in Cuba, creates a multiyear, worldwide partnership with Universal Music Group. It’s all pretty simple.

Not.

Jay-Z, a man of many hats, and Roc Nation announced today that they’ve entered a multiyear partnership with the largest music company, Universal Music Group. In the partnership, the Roc Nation music label will able to operate as it’s own label inside UMG.

“This agreement presents a unique opportunity for Roc Nation’s artists — being able to continue to operate as an independent label with the strength, power and reach of the best major,” said Hov in a statement.

Just last week, Roc Nation hit headlines with the arrival of their sports agency, Roc Nation Sports, after signing their first client, New York Yankees’ Robinson Cano. What’s next up Hov’s sleeve? The Great Gatsby soundtrack.

Audio: Santigold ft. Karen O (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs) – Go!

Definitely excited for more new music from Ms. Santi White, who just recently signed to Roc Nation.

Santigold: In this song, “GO” has a dual meaning. On one hand it’s a challenge, beckoning any would-be usurpers to come show and prove. On the other, it’s a call to myself to rise to the occasion. “Go” is a “fun” song. It’s playful, but like many of my songs, lyrically it was an opportunity for me to vent. It’s about the difficulties of holding onto what’s yours, everything from your ideas and energy, to your confidence.
