New deal alert!

Ice Cube has signed on to join Interscope Records, after what feels like ages of being an independent artist. The signing comes somewhat unexpected, as it didn’t appear Cube was working on anything musically and solely focusing on his acting career.

“We are thrilled to announce that Ice Cube has joined the Interscope family,” said John Janick, Chairman and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M. “He’s obviously one of the legendary figures in hip-hop…that’s a massive statement on its own, but he’s so much more than that. Cube has an incredible body of work, and as a fan I’m honored to welcome him to the label.”

With the 25th anniversary of Cube’s ‘Death Certificate’ coming on June 9th, the Legend is releasing a full-fledged special anniversary edition of his sophomore album. The revamp will drop on June 9th and include classic singles like “Steady Mobbin,” “A Bird in the Hand,” and “No Vaseline” along with three new singles “Only One Me,” “Good Cop, Bad Cop,” and “Dominate The Weak”.

‘Death Certificate’ was originally released on October 29th, 1991. It touched on a lot of social and racial issues stemming from the 1991 Rodney King beating by the LAPD. Even decades later it seems as those issues have only gotten worse and Cube will address it on the anniversary edition.

“Sadly, our community is dealing with many of the same issues,” explained Cube. “I only hope that young millennials feeling powerless in the ‘hood can channel their own anger and frustration by listening to this record.”

Pre-orders for the anniversary edition will be made available June 2nd with the album dropping June 9th.

Aside from this release, Cube recently confirmed the latest sequel of the “Friday” franchise, “Last Friday”. Read more about that here.
