Jay-Z Shares Three New Videos For ‘4:44’ Singles [WATCH]

For a few consecutive weeks Jay-Z was releasing music videos for ‘4:44’ singles every Friday at 4:44 p.m. He eventually slowed that down and took a break from dropping visuals as he focused on his current “4:44 Tour” amongst other things.

Before Black Friday, Hov had dropped visuals for “The Story of OJ,” “4:44,” “Bam” featuring Damian Marley, “Kill Jay Z,” “Moonlight,” and one of the bonus tracks in “MaNyFaCedGod.”

Revisiting his 13th studio album, Jay dropped three new videos for “Smile” featuring his mother Gloria Carter, “Marcy Me” featuring The-Dream, and “Legacy.”

For the 8-minute “Smile” video Jay-Z nabbed Dominique Fishback to play a young version of his mother Gloria Carter, while the real Ms. Carter also shares a poem at the end of the emotional video. The video was written and directed by Miles Jay. It also stars Isi Laborde, Taylor Thomas, and Guy Lockard.

Next up Is “Legacy,” which is essentially a mini-movie that includes a cast of Susan Sarandon, Jesse Williams, Ron Perlman, Aldis Hodge, Kwame Boateng, Edi Gather, Jonathan Tucker, Marque Richardson, and Emile Hirsch. It is written and directed by Jeymes Samuel, who focuses on the prison system, mass incarceration, rehabilitation, and recovery.

jay-z-adnis-footnotes

Jay-Z continues to unveil footnotes for the singles on his critically-acclaimed ‘4:44’ album. Having already shared more than half of the footnotes, Hov moves forward with “Adnis.” As you may know “Adnis” is a bonus cut off the album.

“Adnis” is inspired by Hov’s estranged father, Adnis Reeves. On the footnotes he reflects on his dad’s lifes and discusses his father’s trials and tribulations, while looking at things through Adnis’ scope.

“When you look at it through that scope, through that lens, you don’t look at it in such a harsh view,” says Hov. “You look at it like, ‘Man, life fucked you up. I’m sorry that happened to you. I wish you would have told me. I wish you could have said something to me. I could have helped you.”

Along with Jay, the Adnis footnotes includes additional commentary from Chris Rock, Mahershala Ali, Will Smith, Bill Burr, Mack Wilds, DJ Khaled, and Kevin Hart, who all share their own stories of their fathers.

Jay-Z Admits To Letting Go Of His Ego In “Kill Jay Z” Footnotes [WATCH]

kill-jay-z-1-600x450

Every Friday Jay Z has been sharing a new video off his ‘4:44’ album. Along with the video Hov gives his ideology behind the single with footnotes. This past Friday dropped the visuals for “Kill Jay Z” and now we’ve got the footnotes.

A standout off the album, “Kill Jay Z” has Hov getting personal with listeners by talking about nearly killing his brother, cheating on Beyoncé, dissing Kanye West, and more. One of the standout things Jay admits in the footnotes is “killing off” his ego.

It’s really about the ego,” He says in the video. “Killing off the ego so we can have this conversation in a place of vulnerability and honesty. JAY-Z the public persona couldn’t have this conversation. It’s really Shawn Carter speaking to JAY-Z. And he has to convince him to move aside.”

The footnotes includes additional commentary from  Chris Rock, Charlamagne Tha God, Mahershala Ali, Van Jones, Trevor Noah, Anthony Anderson, and Michael Che share their thoughts on how ego affects people.

New Video: Jay-Z – “Kill Jay Z” [WATCH]

kill-jay-z-video

Jay-Z drops the fourth video off his ‘4:44’ album. For four weeks straight he has released a new visual from his ‘4:44’ songs, which began with ‘The Story of OJ’. From there Hov fed the people with ‘4:44’, ‘Bam’ featuring Damian Marley, and now he’s unleashed the black-and-white clip for ‘Kill Jay Z’.

Directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, the 2-minute video begins with Hov’s vocals and a blacked out scream. In correlation with the No I.D.-produced instrumental, you see a teenage kid running as the beat drops, wearing a shirt that says “Stay Black.” Aerial shots then show a man in the desert, while another man swims in the ocean.

Hov’s ‘4:44’ album has already reached platinum certification and currently sits at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Jay made history with the album going No. 1 earlier this week. Read more here.

Jay-Z Makes History By Topping Billboard 200 With ‘4:44’ Album [PEEP]

jay-z-444

In just two weeks of its release, Jay-Z’s 13th studio album, ‘4:44’ earned RIAA platinum certification. Since then it has received a double platinum certification and Jay-Z has made history by topping the Billboard 200 chart and in-turn becoming the artist with the most No. 1 albums among solo artists of all-time. Hov has the second-most chart-topping albums of all-time behind only The Beatles, who have a total of 19, respectively.

Hov did numbers the first week of eligibility selling 262,000 equivalent album units (174,000 traditional sales). Those numbers also became the fourth biggest week for any 2017 album release. Even though

It’s quite an extraordinary feat considering ‘4:44’ was only available on TIDAL exclusively for the first week, which took away from sales. In addition TIDAL didn’t turn-in first week numbers to Nielson Music, making it ineligible for the chart that week. Since then the album has been made available on all formats and physical copies are now available and include three additional bonus tracks.

Beginning in 1998 with Hov’s ‘Vol.2… Hard Knock Life’, all his solo albums have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. His collaborative albums with Kanye West (‘Watch the Throne’), R. Kelly (‘Unfinished Business’), and Linkin Park (‘Collision Course’) have also all reached the top spot.

CONGRATS, HOV!

In the 11-minute footnotes for Jay-Z’s heartfelt “4:44” single, he opens up about his relationship with wifey Beyonceé and professes his love for her. Hov also recounts meeting his father for the first time and how that helped him realize how special his relationship with Bey was.

“What I thought when I met my dad was, ‘Oh, I’m free to love now,’” Hov explains in the video. “But it’s like, ‘Yeah, but how are you gonna do it? You wanna do it, I get it, but how are you gonna do it? You’ve never won this before. No one informs you how to do it. You don’t even have the tools to do it.’ ‘I don’t know. jay-z-footnotes

When Hov dropped his 13th studio album, ‘4:44’ last week, he simultaneously released the animated visuals for “The Story of OJ” single. The song emphasizes the race separation, social injustices, and abuse of power that exists in the world. To take things further, Jigga shared an eight-minute clip of commentary about the song.

Commentary in the footnotes video is provided by Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, Chris Rock, Mahershala Ali, Michael B. Jordan, Trevor Noah, and Jay-Z. Each person shares stories about their experiences and provide insight on the issues Jay tackles in the song.

In the video K. Dot tells a story about witnessing a man getting killed by a police officer in front of him when he was five-years-old.

“The disrespect and the manner that this officer—he was a bad officer, I would say that for sure—that he approached my mother with was completely out of line,” said Kendrick.

Aside from the knowledge that is communicated in the clip, there is a preview of the video for “4:44,” which drops Friday at 4:44 pm. In addition Jay offered a free download of the album via TIDAL. Follow the directions below for the free download and watch the footnotes below as well.
