Video: Tyler, The Creator – Drone Interview

Check out Tyler, The Creator in this interview with The Drone. Where he discusses being true to himself, what he thinks about people who critique his lyrics, and everything he’s trying to achieve. It’s really a dope piece.

“Greatness to me is finally getting my video on mTV, its on there now and I’m fucking, I’m happy… I finally got my shit on fuckin’ mTV. Some people might think that’s selling out or whatever, but I don’t really give a fuck…. That’s fucking great to me, I’m proud of myself. I’ve been wanting that since I was seven years-old, and I finally got that shit. And hard work pays the fuck off.”

Don’t worry, there was no part one so you aren’t missing something. Breathe easy, my friend.

Nicki Minaj Cleans Up Nice for Elle Magazine

This might be one of the first photos of her that hasn’t instantly annoyed me.  Normally Miss Minaj will always solicit at least an eye-roll on my part… Partially because homegirl always seems to be doing too much and it hurts my eyes to process such a visual, and partially because I’m just a hater and jealous of anyone’s ass that gets that much attention.  But in this instance, its actually quite the opposite.  I think she looks great here.  Two thumbs up Nicki.

“I always wanted to play with the boys. I didn’t want to be a pawn in their game or have a sidekick role. I wanted to be more of a lead character – a superhero.”

You can check out the full feature in Elle’s Music Issue on sale April 12th.

Video: J. Dilla’s Mom Announces New Dilla Project

Mrs. Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancy confirms above that a new project titled, The Rebirth of Detroit, made up of entirely brand new and previously unreleased material from J. Dilla will be released later this year, and will feature only Detroit artists who had actually worked directly with the legendary producer.

“There’s a misconception that it has something to do with old projects. This is entirely new, fresh ideas, energetic, fresh and gifted. It is titled The Rebirth of Detroit, so no one will get it twisted.”

Can you hear that? That’s the sound of hip-hop heads around the world giggling like excited little girls.

Video: Big Sean – Weekend Recap 14

This weeks recap shows Big Sean doing quite a bit of press and then returning to Michigan to rock a show on his birthday.

With a healthy amount of this weeks footage shot in the Def Jam offices, I am loving all the cameos from my NY family in this one. My favorite being that of my usually camera shy boss, Rick Sackheim. Peep the 1:16 mark to see the man that keeps my bills paid.

Audio: Jill Scott ft. Eve – Shame

This is a fun one, with all the “girl-power” and “love-yourself” lyrics you would normally expect from Jill Scott. This is the first single off Jill’s fourth album The Light of The Sun coming out later this year.
