The best way to discover new artists is to check out mixtapes presented by DJs/tastemakers who carefully select the cream of the crop to include in their projects. Mick Boogie does just that. Represent The Stripes, presented by Mick Boogie and HYPETRAK, features a great selection of new artists and at the damn same time captures the “patriotism of the Olympics going on next month.” I took that quote from the larger quote below.
What do YOU represent? Mick Boogie was so impressed with the upcoming adidas #represent campaign that he decided to make a mixtape paying homage to it: “Represent The Stripes.” And he brought along his good friends at HYPETRAK to make it even better! The project ties in the ideals of the adidas campaign with the patriotism of the Olympics going on next month… hence the double entendre of “Represent The Stripes.” More of an exclusive, awesome compilation than a mixtape, this project features a who’s who of dope new rappers and some legends as well! Check it out NOW exclusively at HYPETRAK.
You know the drill. Tracklist (I bolded some of my faves), stream and download after the jump.

Just in time for summer, DJs Mick Boogie and Jazzy Jeff released the third installment of their Summertime mixtape with a very special intro by The Fresh Prince, Will Smith. Hit the jump for the tracklist and download link(s) and let the BBQs begin!

How did this mixtape slip by me? Mick Boogie put together 80 minutes of his favorite Beastie Boys rarities, remixes, demos, live versions, out-takes, and more in honor of the Beastie Boys being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. A few weeks later, Beastie Boys’ member Adam “MCA” Yauch passed away after fighting a three-year battle with cancer. It may be the end of a Beastie Boys era but their legacy will continue to live loudly through speakers. If you weren’t familiar with the trio, consider Grand Royal an 80-min crash course in a part of hip hop history.

In honor of the Beastie Boys being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame… I thought it’s finally the right time to do a mixtape. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time… something people have asked me to do for a long time, actually… but I wanted it to mean something. Now… is the right time. I present to you “Grand Royal.”
But I wanted to make it special. Something beyond just an audio experience. I called my friend Jonathan Mannion… the legendary photographer (Jay-Z’s first four albums, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Nas, Aaliyah, the list goes on and on), and we decided to re-shoot the iconic cover from the Beastie’s 1989 classic “Paul’s Boutique.” –Mick Boogie
