Meek Mill Gets Candid In NBC Special “Dreams And Nightmares: The Meek Mill Story” [WATCH]

Since being freed from prison Meek Mill hasn’t done any interviews on his current legal battles and ongoing probation violation case, which dates back to 2011. In his first interview since getting out on bail the Philadelphia rapper sat down with Lester Holt for his NBC Special “Dreams and Nightmares: The Meek Mill Story.”

The full broadcast aired on NBC last night and included exclusive access to Meek’s situation and prison release, beginning with his release last month and chopper ride with Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin to the game, shortly after his release.

For over 40-minutes Meek and Holt discussed the rapper’s redemption, quest to freedom, beginning an entire justice reform movement, the justice system in America, his ongoing legal battle, and even his opioid addiction, which wasn’t made public until yesterday.

Along with speaking to Meek, Holt also spoke to his mother Kathy Williams and sister Nasheema Williams about the issues at hand. Meek also discussed missing his family, support from fans, and more.

When asked about his responsibility Meek said, “At this point, it’s not all about me having the light to shine on my situation. It’s about the thousands of others that’s caught up in that situation. How can we fix young black men going to jail for frivolous reasons and other young children growing up without fathers in their homes? And the cycle continuing of young black men going to prison.”

BREAKING: Meek Mill Released From Prison [PEEP]

From #FreeMeekMill to #MeekMillFree.

After an ongoing battle with Pennsylvania courts that will continue, Meek Mill is finally free. He was jailed last November of last year for probation violations that stemmed from a 2011 sentence before the Philadelphia Supreme Court demanded he be freed.

Meek had first filed the bail petition in his probation case, which warranted 2-4 years in prison. His lawyer Joe Tacopina filed the motion to Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley, who rejected the request and ordered he be jailed on a 2-4 year prison sentence. While denying the bail petition Judge Brinkley went on to call Meek a “danger to the community” and a “flight risk.”

Although his bail request was finally granted and he is now, the fight will have to continue. The rapper said in a statement that, “In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.”

Upon being released and getting his phone back, Meek wrote a letter of appreciation to everyone who has been by his side like God, JAY-Z, family, Roc Nation, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and more.

“I’d like to thank God, my family, my friends, my attorneys, my team at Roc Nation including JAY-Z, Desiree Perez, my good friend Michael Rubin, my fans, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time,” he wrote in and IG post.

As carries on his battles with the judicial system for freedom, Meek Mill and his camp free the visuals for his “1942 Flows” off last year’s critically-acclaimed ‘Wins & Losses’ album.

Not shying away from his ongoing legal battle, the opening clip shows him at a tense press conference, where he pleads for his freedom and explains why he doesn’t deserve jail time. A perplexed Meek is then shown frustrated explaining his unfair prison sentence saying.

They charged me with F1 felonies, they seen me riding a bike. That kind of says it all,” he says. “You get F1 felonies when you shoot somebody, when you stab somebody. I was charged with that for riding a bike.”

Meek Mill Denied Bail; Will Remain In Prison [PEEP]

The ongoing legal woes will continue for Meek Mill as he was denied bail by the The Pennsylvania Superior Court and Philadelphia judge he and his lawyer have been relentlessly fighting. Although the decision was made on Friday, it was only reported to the public today.

Meek filed the bail petition in his probation violation case, which warranted 2-4 years in prison. His lawyer Joe Tacopina filed the motion to Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley, who was the one that made gave the Philly rapper his prison sentence. While denying the bail petition she went on to call Meek a “danger to the community” and a “flight risk.”

Tacopina explained his stance in a statement saying, “As stated on multiple occasions, he has never missed a previous court date in this case and poses absolutely no threat to the community, which makes him an ideal candidate for bail – a conclusion the Commonwealth did not oppose.”

Judge Brinkley sentenced Meek to his current sentence in early November for violating his probation, even though prosecutors didn’t call for any jail time to be given. The case that got Meek where he is now stems from a 2008 gun and drug charge.

The “harsh” treatment of Meek has resulted in Tacopina questioning Brinkley’s agenda and personal feelings against the rapper, alleging Brinkley asked Meek to quit Roc Nation and sign with her friend’s managing company. Tacopina also said that Brinkley requested Meek remake Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee” as an apology to her. He goes on to say Brinkley is “infatuated” with Meek and he hasn’t seen this kind of complication in his long legal career.
