My brotha Ludacris stopped by the #LIFTOFF with Eric DLux and I to celebrate the release of his 8th studio album titled Ludaversal. We had a great time giving LA an early preview of the album on air, while sipping off a $350 bottle of Tequila! Who said you can’t work and celebrate at the same time?
I finally got some time to sit with this album and really have a listen. I must say Ludacris is still, Ludacris. This new album is a solid Luda album.
His intensity on the mic and the aggressiveness on his bars is what makes this album a good one.
Aside from the album single “Good Lovin” he has with Miguel, Ludacris said that his favorite song on the album was “Grass is Always Greener”. I went ahead and took a listen to it and I noticed that the song is about him finding a balance between his personal and life and artist life. With a line like “I’m at home wishing I was in the club, other times I’m at the club wishing I was with my kids”.
Another song I enjoyed off the album is “Call Ya Bluff”. Ludacris brings his aggressiveness and intensity on the mic with this song. He also has a song titled “Beast Mode” that was inspired by none other than Mr. Beast Mode himself Marshawn Lynch. Luda brought his bars on this song and showed that memorable Luda flow.
Though Ludacris’ acting credits have overshadowed his musical credits in recent years, you can’t deny that the Atlanta-bred rapper has had a legendary run, putting out Dirty South hit after hit. We can’t forget the classic Luda features and songs like Usher’s “Yeah!”, and his solo hits like “Southern Hospitality”, “Move B#tch”, “Get Back”, and “Number One Spot”.
Ludacris put some serious work on this album and it shows. This is one you gotta support.

The Album About Nothing is arguably Wale’s best album yet. We’ve seen Wale go through his ups and downs in this industry over the past year but it seems like he took all of that energy and poured it into this album right here. I really love the way this album is put together.
First off the thing that was noticeable as I hit play was the heavy influence that Jerry Seinfeld was going to have on this album. There’s original dialogue used on certain intros of songs. There’s also the use of old Jerry Seinfeld audio from the show that relates to a certain song off the album.
A song that I really LOVE is called “The White Shoes”. Wale is lyrically sharp on it and it’s an uplifting song that is done in true Wale form. Another song that caught my attention is “The Need To Know”. Of course, a Seinfeld sound bite intro’s the song speaking about a being just friends with someone. Then as the song starts to come in SZA starts humming the melody to Musiq Soulchild’s “Just Friends” throughout the song. She also sings a piece of the hook from the original song and flips it her way. I must say it was well done.
Wale didn’t have many features on this album and that’s a good thing because the album didn’t need much assistance. The artists he does have are well chosen and fit each song respectively. The album features Jeremih, J. Cole, Usher, and TDE’s own SZA. The song “The Pessimist” which features Cole is another one I really enjoyed.
Sonically, this album is pretty damn good. The album features production from Dj Dahi, Sounds, Jake One, and others.
Wale has always been the artist to be conscious about everything going on around him whether its good or bad. That never stopped Wale from chasing his creative vision though. I respect that about him. He made this album the way he wanted and on his terms. So far, it’s paying off and the people are really grasping Wale’s vision.
Wale really puts out effort into his music and ALWAYS makes a stamp in this game!
Make sure you support and grab Wale’s “Album About Nothing”.

K. Dot is back! The new album “To Pimp A Butterfly” was released a few days ago and if you’re from LA, it’s been the soundtrack in everyone’s car pretty much this whole week. The clean version of the album was prematurely released by mistake on iTunes and shortly after the full explicit version was made available. Kendrick Lamar came out the gate breaking records with his new album. He made Spotify history and had 9.6 million streams on the first day!
It’s been almost 3 years since we had some new Kendrick music so we weren’t too sure on what we would get from him. The new album isn’t as aggressive production wise as “good kid, m.A.A.d city,” but Kendrick makes up for the that lyrically.
Aside from Kendrick’s crazy bars, the production on it is just as incredible. The presence of pianist Robert Glasper, producer/sax player Terrace Martin and bass player Thundercat can be felt throughout the whole album. Basically Jazz compositions with Hip-Hop beats/raps over it and even some spoken word at one point on the “For Free? (Interlude)”.
Yo! The album has so many great songs that it’s hard to choose a favorite, but some songs off the album that we gravitated to are “King Kunta,” where Dot transforms into a 2015 Compton bred James Brown. One of the more gritty beats on the album, Dot let’s everyone know that he’s here and the thrown is HIS. Other stand out tracks include “Institutionalized” featuring Snoop, Bilal & Anna Wise, “These Walls,” “Alright,” “How Much A Dollar Cost,” and of course, “Mortal Man”. On the song “Mortal Man,” he puts together a back and forth conversation between him and the late Tupac using old sound bites from Tupac’s past interviews. Another song that really stood out is “Hood Politics”. Dot plays Obama with an attitude, and touches on some of the obstacles he’s had to deal with on his way to that podium. This is definitely an album you have to listen to if you appreciate great Hip-Hop!
Go support great music and grab “To Pimp A Butterfly” album on iTunes NOW. Shouts to our TDE family and special thanks to Kendrick Lamar for another incredible body of work.
