New Video: J. Cole – “Kevin’s Heart” [WATCH]

Who else better to star in J. Cole’s “Kevin’s Heart” single than Kevin Hart himself. The single which was drew inspiration from the actor/comedian’s infidelity follows the video for “ATM” that was released the same day as Cole’s ‘KOD’ album last Friday.

Co-directed by Cole and Scott Lazer, the video puts Hart and his situation on blast, while poking some fun at it. Throughout the video you see the impact Hart cheating on his wife while being pregnant had. From the grocery store to a restaurant to a baby store, people look at Kevin awkwardly and in disgust.

New Video: J. Cole – “ATM” [WATCH]

On fire from the release of his fifth studio album ‘DOA’, J. Cole counts it up in the colorful video for his strip club-ready “ATM” single.

Directed by a combination of Scott Lazer and Cole, the video includes a group of kids flying on drug clouds in hopes of finding money bags. In another scene Cole is shown recreating a scene from “Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas” as he and a female companion are cruising through the desert in a classic car before money takes them out of this world.

J. Cole Shuts It Down With ‘KOD’ Album [STREAM]

The real is back.

Just two-years departed from releasing his critically-acclaimed ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ album, J. Cole unleashes his fifth studio album ‘KOD’. The album’s title holds a few different meanings being: ‘Kids On Drugs’, ‘Kill Our Demons’, and ‘King OverDosed’. One can also make a case for a fourth meaning of ‘King Of Dreamville’.

Before releasing the album, Cole shared a trailer for the album and sent out a tweet explaining the different meanings of the acronym ‘KOD’. He also left room for fans to come up with their own interpretations by listening to the album.

Equipped with 12-tracks ‘KOD’ includes no features with the exception of a mysterious artist named kiLL edward, who is Cole’s alter ego. With that said for the third consecutive album Jermaine opts to go with no features, looking to complete a three-peat of his “platinum with no features” feat.

I’ve already listened to the album from front-to-back and am very happy with it. The singles that have became some of my favorite are “KOD,” “Photograph,” “The Cut Off,” “ATM,” and “1985.”

J. Cole Uncovers His ‘KOD’ Album Artwork, Shares Track List & New Single [PEEP]

Two days after announcing his anticipated fifth studio album ‘KOD’, J. Cole follows-up by uncovering the album’s artwork, sharing the track list, and dropping a new single.

There has been speculation that the album’s ‘KOD’ title has a few different meanings being, “King OverDosed,” “Kids On Drugs,” “Killing Our Demons,” and “King of Dreamville.” With the exception of the latter option the album’s cover artwork would make sense and reflects the first three meanings with Cole sitting on a throne with a crown, while inside his gown you see children, drugs, and death.

It had been confirmed the album would come with 12-tracks and that is represented on the backside artwork, but it was also said there would be no features on the album consistent to his last two. However on the tracks “The Cut Off” and “Friends” there is a feature from a mysterious artist named kiLL edward, who many seem to think is Cole’s alter ego.

There was a song uploaded to Spotify earlier this year called “Tidal Wave” that does have a resemblance to Cole’s voice, so maybe it is his singing name.

Listen below.

Tell us in the comments whether you think kiLL edwards is Cole’s alter ego.

‘KOD’ is said to have three meanings being, “kidz on drugz, king overdose, kill our demonz” according to B.dot.

Aside from that there is not much info, but more should be revealed in the coming days, or you can just wait for the album dropping this Friday.

Coming off the release of ‘PRhyme 2’ with DJ Premier, Royce Da 5’9 struck back with “Boblo Boat” featuring none other than J. Cole off his upcoming album, ‘Book of Ryan’. Looking to add steam to the single, Royce unveils the nostalgic visuals.
Produced by 808 Ray & Cool & Dre, the single finds Royce reminiscing of his childhood and fun family trips to the amusement park, while Cole remembers having his first smoke at 6, his real life trauma & unforgettable come up.

The video follows a group of teenagers who visit a closed amusement park for some late night action, as Royce used to do in his early days growing up in Michigan. Cedric the Entertainer, who provides vocals on the song also plays a cameo in the video as the security guard who shuts the teenager’s fun down.

The 10 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2018 [PEEP]

Last year brought us many gems as far as hip-hop and R&B albums go. We received Kendrick Lamar’s masterpiece ‘DAMN.’, Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’, Drake’s ‘More Life’, Big Sean’s ‘I Decided.’, and even Eminem chipped in with his fourth quarter surprise ‘Revival’ album.

I’m sure there were some artists you expected to drop projects last year that didn’t, as many albums faced delays and others continue to be worked on. With that said I have compiled a list of “The 10 Most Anticipated Albums of 2018.”

In no particular order I have listed the 10 albums I feel the culture needs this year and the general public is yearning for. Let’s get to it.

Screen Shot 2018-01-03 at 12.50.38 AMDRAKE – ‘TBD’

As of late, Drake has been posting several pictures of himself in the studio, hinting at his next album release. The 6 God has been notorious for releasing an album in the first two quarters of the last couple years. Last March he dropped ‘More Life’ and in April of 2016 he delivered his ‘Views’ album.

We know Drake has something in the chamber as he’s one of the hardest working in the industry and he’s recently popped up at clubs and parties previewing unreleased material. There is no title as of yet or official announcement, but we are reaching “scary hours” as he likes to call the lead-up to new work.

j-cole-rec-2017-henryJ. COLE – ‘TBD’

If you take a look at J. Cole’s last few album releases, you will discover he drops bi-yearly. Being one of hip-hop’s current top 5 artists, a new album from him is always received with open arms. In 2016 he gave us ‘4 Your Eyez Only’, which did not disappoint and also earned him his second platinum album with no features.

Being a consciously-woke, introspective rapper, there is surely a lot of material for him to rap about and stuff to get off his chest with the current White House administration and events happening in the world. We need a voice to shell out what we all think and say on the daily, except in a much more calculated manner and with a way larger platform.

kanye-west-zoom-e2f2f1be-34d2-4beb-9aa3-345303935037-1KANYE WEST – ‘TBD’

From rumors of being “holed up” in a studio on a mountain top of Montana to random paparazzi pictures of Kayne West hanging out with Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Pusha T, and others, it’s evident he’s up to something.

The last time he was “holed up” was for the workings of ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, when he disappeared to an island in Hawaii and spent 24 hours a day at Avex Honolulu Studios, locked down in three different session rooms for days at a time, until it was finished.

Ye seems to be living his best life with his wife Kim and two kids North and Saint, but I’m sure the fire is still in him. He might make some different sounding music with different motives, but expect a new album from him in 2018.

Screen Shot 2018-01-03 at 1.24.06 AMMIGOS – ‘CULTURE 2’

The Migos made a lot of noise with their ‘Culture’ album and performed at virtually every big festival in 2017. Following the album, Quavo and Offset dropped a few singles and collaboration mixtapes, but fans are ready for the collective ‘Culture 2’ album.

Adlibs and all we should be getting that ‘Culture 2’ early in 2018, at least according to what Quavo said at a recent show.

Screen Shot 2018-01-03 at 1.45.42 AMPUSHA T – ‘KING PUSH’

Pusha T has his hands full at all times these days being the President of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint. Possibly that is what has delayed his next album, which many thought would be released last year.

The album seems to have a title in ‘King Push’ and Pusha has released a few singles like “H.G.T.V.” and “Circles” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Desiigner, which might be on the album, although they were released in 2016.

Either way, we should definitely get a new album from El Presidentè this year.

Screen-Shot-2016-01-30-at-9.18.14-PMNAS – ‘TBD’

On DJ Khaled’s 2016 ‘Major Key’ album was where Nas’ forthcoming was first teased. The third single “Nas Album Done” alludes to the legend’s forthcoming album being complete and on the horizon, although there was minimal talk about it after that.

Nearly two years have passed and here we are still waiting for it. In an interview with Billboard, Nas discussed the album vaguely saying, “It’s not done until it hits the streets,” leaving us to wonder if it ever will.

Not quite sure what the hold up is, he’s dropped singles and been featured, but maybe sample clearances and signatures is the only thing holding back the Queensbride rapper’s first album since 2012’s ‘Life Is Good’ album.

Screen Shot 2018-01-03 at 1.38.18 AMNICKI MINAJ – ‘TBD’

Nicki Minaj has spent the last year shaking critics for dragging her in the Remy Ma beef and attempted to give her “Queen of Rap” crown to Cardi B, who rose to the scene and dominated in her early stages.

There’s a lot of motivation for Nicki to release a new album in 2018 and being one of the most consistent female rappers/Pop stars/Icons the culture really needs it. Now I’m sure one of you trolls is going to try and argue this, but if you take a look at her track record, you can’t in your right mind argue her accolades.

Let’s hope we get some new fire Nicki Minaj in 2018 with her fast spitting, raunchy raps. With or without the Young Money umbrella, there are more hits in her.

Screen Shot 2018-01-02 at 9.57.55 PMCARDI B – ‘TBD’

Who has a better 2017 than Cardi B? If she has a clone, perhaps the clone. Aside from that there aren’t too many other answers that one could give to a question like that. For peeps sake, Cardi dominated the charts with her debut “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” single and followed up making Billboard chart history.

She recently released her second single, “Bartier Cardi,” which seems to be trending upward on the charts, but the culture is ready for her debut album. Perhaps we will get a full album and not a bunch of one-offs or a mixtape.

Screen Shot 2018-01-03 at 8.06.00 PMSCHOOLBOY Q – ‘TBD’

TDE is one of the most calculated labels in the industry and in hindsight are five years ahead. Last year they focused on Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and other up-and-coming acts. With that out the way, it should be time for ScHoolboy Q to release a new one.

Back in 2016, Q dropped ‘Blank Face EP’, which was a success for him and indications point to him giving the fans a solid follow-up int 2018.

Nipsey-hussle-victory-lapNIPSEY HUSSLE – ‘VICTORY LAP’

With a new Atlantic Records partnership in the fold, Nipsey Hussle is ready to release his highly-anticipated debut album, ‘Victory Lap’. His first single “Rap N***as” has the streets on fire and the hype has only increased.

Nip will drop ‘Victory Lap’ on Friday, February 16th, which is the start of NBA All-Star weekend in LA. Stay tuned.

HONORABLE MENTION:

kendrick-lamar-bio-pic-1KENDRICK LAMAR – ‘TBD’

After delivering such a stellar, critically-acclaimed album in 2017 with ‘DAMN.’, hip-hop enthusiasts are already craving another Kendrick Lamar album.

Not sure if we will actually get it, but it shouldn’t be so farfetched considering there was rumors of a second K. Dot album dropping a week after ‘DAMN.’ did.

Miguel Shares New J. Cole-Assisted “Come Through And Chill” Single + ‘War & Leisure’ Track List [PEEP]

Every time Miguel and J. Cole collaborate they create magic. The duo first linked on 2010’s “All I Want Is You” and then again on 2013’s “Power Trip.” The magic-making duo strike again with “Come Through and Chill.”

Miguel and Cole coast over the smooth production of Salaam Remi, who also produced the duo’s first collaboration in “All I Want Is You.” On “Come Through and Chill” the combination pleads for their love interest to chill and make up for lost time.

J. Cole also gets political in the process by touching on Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling as he raps, “Know you’ve been on my mind like Kaepernick kneelin’ / Or police killings, or Trump sayin’ slick shit / Manipulatin’ poor white folks because they ignant / Blind to the struggles of the ones that got the pigment / Lately I’ve been stressin’ ’cause it seems so malignant.”

“Come Through and Chill” joins “Told You So” and the Travis Scott-assisted “Sky Walker” on Miguel’s forthcoming ‘War & Leisure’ album, which is set to be released Friday, December 1st. You can see the full official track listing below and listen to “Come Through and Chill.”

J. Cole Signs Earth Gang TO Dreamville [PEEP]

bfbcc3fa6d90bff04d44ed1c4433e93a.700x500x1

The bond between J. Cole and the lyrical Atlanta duo Earth Gang is a strong one. Having already collaborated on a number of songs, Cole signed Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot, who make up Earth Gang to his Dreamville Records.

In a video announcement J. Cole made the signing official while praising the duo saying, “When ni**as think about Atlanta, they think about super trap shit,” he said. “They think about Future, which Future is the God right now in that world and in that lane, but them kids you seen at that show tonight, them 3,000 kids and then there was thousands more that didn’t make it in, they actually relate more to y’all.”

Cole has a point, Atlanta is always aligned with trap music and acts like Future, Migos, 21 Savage, and many others add to that sentiment. Earth Gang brings a different kind of flow and style to the ATL scene that is very different from the trap sound. Earth Gang along with fellow Spillage Village member, J.I.D, who signed to Dreamville earlier this year, all possess a more lyrical-driven style, fitting Dreamville’s collective.

Fresh off their new deal Earth Gang will join labelmates, J. Cole, J.I.D, and Ari Lennox at this weekend’s Made in America music festival in Philadelphia.

New Travis Scott & J. Cole Tracks Surface Online [PEEP]

leaks

An anonymous group of music hackers known as the Music Mafia have been leaking a lot of music online lately. They have recently leaked over 30 new Chris Brown songs, a Kanye track, and more. The group has struck again by leaking a new Travis Scott single called “Reflex” and a J. Cole joint called “Midas Touch”.

Travis Scott’s “Reflex” is an alleged single off his forthcoming ‘ASTROWORLD’ album, at least that’s what the description says. “Reflex” definitely sounds like album material and doesn’t sound like it’s a reference track or anything of that nature.

The J. Cole “Midas Touch” leak is actually a reference track for Rihanna. On the track you can also catch some of Cole’s “Black Friday” freestyle bars.

Screen Shot 2017-06-06 at 7.05.40 PM

Indie Pick of the Week alumnist and Bay Area representer, Caleborate drops some real hip hop shit and spreads love on his new track “Produced By J. Cole.” Over a J. Cole-produced loop, Caleb spits about his experiences, struggles, and shows love to different members of the hip hop community from Nas to Migos.

It’s been a quiet year for Caleborate so far, hopefully this is a sign there is a lot more new music from this overly-talented rapper on the way.
