New Music: Juelz Santana – “Drake Voice”

juelz-santana-drake-voice

Last year Drake paid Juelz Santana homage on his single “Hype” by shouting out the New York rapper saying, “I feel like Juelz Santana / leg hangin’ out the phantom. In the same way Juelz returns the favor by dropping the song “Drake Voice,” which samples “Hype.”

The Jahlil Beatz-produced track is one of the many songs Juelz has dropped as of late. After taking a break and joining the cast of “Love & Hip-Hop,” it looks like Santana is back to making music. Although the rapper hasn’t dropped an album since 2005’s ‘What The Game’s Been Missing’, all the new music could be a sign that the rapper may be working on an album.

Drake’s ‘Views’ Goes 4x Platinum [PEEP]

drake-cover-art-breakdown

Drake’s ‘Views’ album sold over 1-million units in the first week, and it continues to reach milestones by earning a 4x platinum certification by RIAA.

It only took the album a month to reach gold and platinum certifications following its May 6th public release. On August 3rd it was announced ‘Views’ had sold over 3-million copies even though it is his worst body of work according to critics.

It’s apparent that the opinion of critics doesn’t always matter when the public’s perception says otherwise.

This year the RIAA began measuring streams in their certification program and it breaks down like this: 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale. As we know ‘Views’ had 20 songs which may have helped.

The album was released through Republic Records, Cash Money Records, and YMCMB Records. It is Drizzy’s second album to go 4x platinum following his sophomore album ‘Take Care’ was also awarded with the certification.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BNpu4t9jvFO/

It’s been an impeccable year for The 6 God as he was recently named Spotify’s “most streamed artist of 2016.” In September Apple Music awarded him with a plaque for being one of the few artists to reach over a billion streams.

‘Views’ has also made Rolling Stones’ “Top 50 Albums of 2016” and is one of six (ironically) albums to be on the Top 5 (“Top 5, Top 5, Top 5”) on the Billboard 200 for over 25 weeks.

If you think Drizzy is done reaching pinnacles and working this year think again. He will be releasing his ‘More Life’ project later this month.

The “10 Snipe Commandments” By Drake and French Montana

French Montana and Drake have proven their strong friendship lately, from living lavishly in the Dominican Republic in the video of “No Shopping” to partying together on a yacht at Montana’s birthday bash. But now, they are taking it to another level.
The two rappers created a list of rules they follow, entitled the “10 Snipe Commandments,” and that is in disregard to those who are fully committed. It is a representation of the bachelor life and brotherhood. Written by Drizzy and overviewed by French Montana, the list is meant to guide them in their “hunt” for “splash.”
Although not too long ago, French Montana was rumored to date female rapper Iggy Azalea, this last Instagram post made us questions those rumors. Here are some of the rules presented on the list:
“Thou shall never pillow talk or discuss business with a ting.”
“Thou shall never tell a ting about another man’s splash in order to execute his own splash.”
“Thou shall always lie to protect a brother’s reputation or chance of a splash conversion in the near or distant future.”

Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2016 Includes Béyonce, Kanye West, Drake, Chance The Rapper & More [PEEP]

rs_top50of2016-7b8c9fb4-dfe2-40dd-a58b-b60c64c40a6d

Béyonce, Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, Frank Ocean, and Young Thug all finished in the top 10 of Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2016.

Queen Béy lead the way with her highly-acclaimed ‘LEMONADE’ topping the list. The platinum-selling album’s placement came to no surprise to some, after its worldwide popularity and countless awards and accolades.

“Beyoncé shut everyone else down this year with a soul-on-fire masterpiece, testifying about love, rage and betrayal that felt all too true in the America of 2016,” wrote the magazine. “The queen not only made the album of the year (and make no mistake, David Bowie would have been the first to say so), she delivered a confessional, genre-devouring suite that feels larger than life yet still heartbreakingly intimate, because it doubles as her portrait of a nation in flames.”

Chance The Rapper, Frank Ocean, and Young Thug all followed Béyonce in the top 10 for their albums ‘Coloring Book’, ‘Blonde’, and ‘Jefferey’, respectively. Both Chance and Franky Ocean have received high praise for the continuous success of their projects while being indepedent.

Drake’s ‘Views’ finished 42nd after ‘If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late’ placed third last year, behind Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ and Adele’s ’25’.

Other hip-hop notables include: Danny Brown’s ‘Atrocity Exhibition’ (19th), Rihanna’s ‘ANTI’ (25th), A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘We Got it From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service’ (30th), Alicia Keys’ ‘HERE’ (32nd), Maxwell’s ‘blackSUMMERS’night’ (40th), and Future’s ‘Evol’ (43rd).

New Album: The Weeknd – ‘Starboy’ [STREAM]

the-weeknd-starboy

Fans are giving thanks this year for the release of The Weeknd’s highly-anticipated ‘Starboy’ album.

The Weeknd aburptly announced the album back in September before dropping the album artwork where he wasn’t sporting his trademark dreads. Shortly after he released the title-track “Starboy” and “False Alarm” along with the visuals.

In an interview he said ‘Starboy’ would be his “best sounding” album and shared the inspirations for the album.

“The production feels aggressive but still sexy. The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Prince, and DeBarge play roles. We wrote it all in Los Angeles. I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done. It’s hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced,” he shared.

The 18-track LP includes contributions from Daft Punk on two songs, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and Lana Del Rey.

Press play below to stream ‘Starboy’ via Apple Music.

In other news The Weeknd hinted at a possible joint-project with Drake saying it was a possibility.

“He came in as my big bro and showed the world what I could do,” he said. “From then on, he’s always been supporting me and I’ve always been supporting him. Behind the scenes, we’re still very close but it’s cool that the world can see us doing our own thing. OVO/XO will always be there.”

Drizzy shared a special message for The Weeknd and his new album on his Instagram. See it below.

Out now!!! Congrats @theweeknd and the whole XO man dem. 🙏🏼🇨🇦

Chance The Rapper Covers Drake’s “Feel No Ways” On BBC Radio [WATCH]

chance-live-lounge

Chance The Rapper went on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s “Live Lounge” earlier today to do an interview and a special performance, where he covered Drake’s “Feel No Ways” off his ‘Views’ album.

On the “Feel No Ways” cover, Chance added his own style to the song by switching some of the lyrics up.

“We have to let go of us to show ourselves what we can be / But that just didn’t sit well with me / Trying to make me feel a way on purpose / Throwing dirt on my name in public / You don’t feel no way on purpose / I’m messing up all of Drake’s words on purpose / Careful, careful / Be careful…You can never be too careful,” he sang.

Watch Chance cover “Feel No Ways” below.

Following the “Feel No Ways” cover, Chano performed “All We Got” off his ‘Coloring Book’ album where he offered support for Kanye West in light of his hospitalization.

“I want to extend a very special prayer to my big brother, Kanye West,” he said during the performance. “I know there’s a lot of weird folks out there, but you already know that I’m a hundred grand. I want to just extend this prayer and this love from all the way in Britain. We might come home early to see this man. Happy Thanksgiving.”

Watch below.

Could Chance be taking a shot a Drake with the “weird folks” and “hundred grand” comment?

Drake Bench Presses To Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” In New Apple Music AD [WATCH]

Drake returns the favor to Taylor Swift as he works out and jams out to her song “Bad Blood.” If you recall Taylor has an Apple Music ad where she runs on the treadmill while she listen’s to Drizzy and Future’s “Jumpman.” Watch below.

In Drake’s ad he is pumping iron with his trainer as he listens to his song “Sneakin'” featuring 21 Savage, before he switches it to “Bad Blood” when his trainer walks away.

Both Drake and Taylor are allegedly working on new music together as Taylor is looking to “experiment” with more “urban music.” Stay tuned for that.

Drake Responds To Kanye Jab [WATCH]

During one of his notorious rants at the “Saint Pablo Tour,” Kanye West took a shot a Drake by saying, “Khaled and Drake and radio and Doc [Wynter] and [Real] 92.3 and everybody. Is it just me or did you hear that song so many times ‘you say you wanna play for free.’ Aye, aye. You know what it is, though? Because aye, I love Drake. I love Khaled. But they set that song up, bro.”

Drizzy responded to the comments during his acceptance speech at the American Music Awards for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist.

The 6 God also commented on DJ Khaled’s Instagram post where Khaled congrtulated him. Check it out below.

A few weeks ago a rumor was confirmed that Drake and Kanye West were working on a joint mixtape. That mixtape seems to be on hold for now with Kanye’s ongoing issues and recent rant, which Drizzy took some offense to.

French Montana Throws Lavish Birthday Bash

On Wednesday (November 9), French Montana linked up with some of the biggest names in the industry to celebrate his 32nd birthday. And as we know him, Montana did not have an ordinary bash.
After dropping “Unforgivable”, French Montana and rumored girlfriend Iggy Azalea spent some time at his house in Calabasas, partying with… elephants? But the real party continued after, on a yacht at Marina Del Rey. Drake, Diddy, Cassie and Amber Rose were some of the rapper’s friends who joined his yacht party. Diddy and Amber even offered speeches, and Rose called Montana “one of my best friends in the world.”
Happy belated birthday, French Montana!

Kanye West And Drake Are Back In The Studio

Kanye West and Drake definitely have a history of good music together. Although they haven’t released any collaboration for a while now, the waiting will be over soon.
One day ago, Drake uploaded an Instagram post of him and Yeezy, saying, “There goes the neighborhood.” Even though at first we weren’t sure whether the two are cooking up a new project or not, our guess was confirmed when Scooter Braun, Kanye’s new manager, left a comment on the post. His comment said, “It begins…” with clapping emojis.
Now we don’t know if “There goes the neighborhood” is going to be the name of their upcoming album, but at least we know that the duo is back. “We’re just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio. We’re working on an album, so there’s some exciting things coming up soon,’ is what Kanye declared about him and Drizzy earlier this year.
