Nas Pays Respect To Prodigy With Tribute & Covers “Shook Ones, Pt. II” [WATCH]

Screen Shot 2017-07-06 at 11.37.32 AM

Nas was the first one to report Prodigy’s death last month. Esco paid tribute to his fellow QueensBridge rapper at the Woo Hah! Festival in the Netherlands, by doing a rendition of Mobb Deep’s infamous “Shook Ones, Pt. II.”

While performing the tribute song, Nas asked the audience to wave their hands for P and chant “R.I.P. Prodigy!” To wrap up the performance Nas showed P love by yelling, “We love you, Prodigy.”

Throughout their careers Nas and Prodigy had some highs and lows. The two once feuded on wax and eventually talked it over and reconciled. Both Esco and P collaborated on a medley of tracks like “It’s Mine,” “Self Conscience,” “Eye for a Eye (Your Beef Is Mines),” “Queens Day,” and others.

Prodigy lost a long battle to sickle cell anemia on June 20th, 2017 in Las Vegas. He has been fighting the disease for about 20-years. Many rappers paid their respects to P at his funeral in New York last month. R.I.P. P.

It is being reported that hip-hop legend Prodigy has passed away at 42-years-old in Las Vegas, Nevada. For years the rapper has battled with health problems, stemming from his sickle cell condition. As of now the cause of death is unknown.

Fellow QB rapper, Nas was the first to report the news, sharing a post on his Instagram that read, “QB RIP King P. Prodigy 4 Ever.”

Prodigy performed in Vegas over the weekend along with Mobb Deep’s second member, Havoc, Ghostface Killah, Ice-T, KRS One, Onyx, and others as part of the “Art of Rap” tour. Last week he also performed at Hot 97’s “Summer Jam” concert.

In the early 90s, Prodigy along with Havoc created Mobb Deep in the Queensbridge section of New York City. The duo spawned eight albums with their biggest hits being “Shook Ones” and “Quiet Storm”. In Paul Edward’s 2009 “How To Rap” book he called the group, “one of the most critically acclaimed hardcore East Coast Hip-Hop groups.” Prodigy also released eight albums of his own and his biggest solo hit was “Keep It Thoro”.

Rest In Power, Prodigy.

Mac Miller ft. Prodigy – Confessions Of A Cash Register (Audio)

Mac Miller

Mac Miller’s been in a record-releasing mood lately. Mainly tracks that are unassociated with his upcoming sophomore album.

“Confessions Of A Cash Register” was released by Mac via Twitter about a week ago. Not sure how I missed a Prodigy feature and Alchemist co-production with Mac’s beatmaking alter ego Larry Fisherman. The free release is not attached to a major project but it sure has us ready to hear what Mac has cookin’ up on Pharrell-collab project, Pink Slime, and on his future sophomore album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off.

Album: Prodigy (Mobb Deep) x Complex – The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson EP

Prodigy and Complex Magazine have teamed up to release this 7-song EP. Tracklist and download link below.

Since getting out of jail a few weeks back, Mobb Deep’s Prodigy has been hard at work. In the past six weeks, he’s lent guest verses to Curren$y and Alchemist’s upcoming Covert Coup as well as Jim Jones’ Capo and he popped up in the video for Raekwon’s “Ferryboat Killaz.” He also hooked up with his partner-in-rhyme Havoc, his buddy Alchemist, and old friend Nas for “Dogg Shit.” Plus he even found time to sit with us for an explosive Q&A where he talked about Capone being a snitch, running into Jay-Z, and why he thought Biggie was corny. And finally, his new book, My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, is in stores today.
