J. Cole Shuts It Down With ‘KOD’ Album [STREAM]

The real is back.

Just two-years departed from releasing his critically-acclaimed ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ album, J. Cole unleashes his fifth studio album ‘KOD’. The album’s title holds a few different meanings being: ‘Kids On Drugs’, ‘Kill Our Demons’, and ‘King OverDosed’. One can also make a case for a fourth meaning of ‘King Of Dreamville’.

Before releasing the album, Cole shared a trailer for the album and sent out a tweet explaining the different meanings of the acronym ‘KOD’. He also left room for fans to come up with their own interpretations by listening to the album.

Equipped with 12-tracks ‘KOD’ includes no features with the exception of a mysterious artist named kiLL edward, who is Cole’s alter ego. With that said for the third consecutive album Jermaine opts to go with no features, looking to complete a three-peat of his “platinum with no features” feat.

I’ve already listened to the album from front-to-back and am very happy with it. The singles that have became some of my favorite are “KOD,” “Photograph,” “The Cut Off,” “ATM,” and “1985.”

J. Cole Signs Earth Gang TO Dreamville [PEEP]

bfbcc3fa6d90bff04d44ed1c4433e93a.700x500x1

The bond between J. Cole and the lyrical Atlanta duo Earth Gang is a strong one. Having already collaborated on a number of songs, Cole signed Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot, who make up Earth Gang to his Dreamville Records.

In a video announcement J. Cole made the signing official while praising the duo saying, “When ni**as think about Atlanta, they think about super trap shit,” he said. “They think about Future, which Future is the God right now in that world and in that lane, but them kids you seen at that show tonight, them 3,000 kids and then there was thousands more that didn’t make it in, they actually relate more to y’all.”

Cole has a point, Atlanta is always aligned with trap music and acts like Future, Migos, 21 Savage, and many others add to that sentiment. Earth Gang brings a different kind of flow and style to the ATL scene that is very different from the trap sound. Earth Gang along with fellow Spillage Village member, J.I.D, who signed to Dreamville earlier this year, all possess a more lyrical-driven style, fitting Dreamville’s collective.

Fresh off their new deal Earth Gang will join labelmates, J. Cole, J.I.D, and Ari Lennox at this weekend’s Made in America music festival in Philadelphia.

J. Cole Drops ‘Eyez’ Documentary [WATCH]

j-cole-eyez

Following the sudden announcement of his fourth studio album, ‘4 Your Eyez Only’, J. Cole released a 40-minute documentary on TIDAL titled ‘Eyez’. In the documentary the Dreamville rapper shares the recording process of his forthcoming album. Taking viewers inside his secret studio and previewing some of the songs that will be on the album.

One of the songs shared, “False Prophets,” stirred up crazy hype after listeners interpreted some of the lyrics as potential shots at Drake, Kanye West, Wale, Lil’ Yachty, and any rapper with the word “Lil” in their name.

“Maybe it’s my fault for idolizing n****s based off the words they be rapping / When come to find out these ni**as don’t even write their shit / Hear some new style bubbling up, then they bite that shit,” he raps on the song.

Cole also talks about his mindset going in to create the album saying, “You get to this height or this level in your career, in terms of platform, the next one might go down, it could go up,” he says. “You’re never guaranteed to be this high again. While I’m here, let me use this opportunity to say the realest shit I’ve ever said.”

Another topic Cole talks about in the documentary is staying away from the spotlight and keeping to himself. He admits he’s very detached because he doesn’t go on social media, read headlines, and isn’t in the news.

“It’s family and fucking music. If I’m not allowing myself to feel what people are feeling, then of course I’m gonna lose sight of that original inspiration,” he says.

‘4 Your Eyez Only’ follows 2014’s double platinum 2014 Forest Hills Drive. It is available for pre-order now on iTunes.
