March 3rd is the 25 year anniversary of De La Soul‘s debut album, 3 Feet High & Rising, so they’re making their WHOLE CATALOGUE available for FREE DOWNLOAD for 25 hours starting at 11:00 am Eastern today. When a legendary rap group is inspired by another legendary rap group, you know it’s gonna be all gravy. If you’re wondering where The Spirit of the Wu came from, this is what De La Soul’s Posdnuos shared with Rolling Stone.

“I stumbled on the original sample while crate digging one day, took it straight to the lab and added drums. The feel is definitely gritty, hard and sounds like a Wu record, so out of inspirational respect, we included featuring ‘The Spirit of the Wu’ in the song title.”

The Wu-Tang-inspired “Get Away” will be on De La Soul’s upcoming album, You’re Welcome, out later this year.

After Michael Rapaport put his A Tribe Called Quest Documentary out, it reminded myself and my folks over at So Much Soul how much dope material Native Tongues had as a crew. We decided to do a mixtape/t-shirt collaboration for it and this is what we came up with. I’m sure the Hip-Hop nerds are gonna be upset that certain songs aren’t on there, deal with it. There’s always a lot of confusion as to who’s actually part of Native Tongues as well, so I just used music from the people who’s names they actually mentioned in the documentary.
