Dr. Dre was named one of hip-hop’s wealthiest people by Forbes earlier this year. Using some of that fortune the rap icon has pledged to donate $10-million to Compton High School for a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center.

“My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve,” Dre said in a statement to The L.A. Times. “The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.”

The new center will provide students with state-of -the-art equipment and essentials they need to thrive in the field. A 1,200-seat theater will be installed along with a digital media production facility. Students will have everything they need to complete their studies.

Students attending Compton High School won’t be the only ones to benefit from the complex, as it will also be a resource center for the Compton community at large according to the L.A. Times.

Dre won’t only be involved by donating, but he will also be an advocate to find sponsors and be directly involved to raise the remaining funds needed to finish the center by the target date of 2020.

“The support that Dre has shown to Compton over the years is unwavering and we are so excited that we will now be home to one of the greatest performing arts centers in the country,” said Satra Zurita, president of Compton Unified’s governing board of trustees.

Beginning July 9th Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s HBO series “The Defiant Ones” will air. The show will highlight the bond between the two and include appearances from Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar.
