L.A. Leakers Indie Pick Of The Week : Trotta – “Fade”

It’s a given that not every aspiring rapper has the budget to buy studio time, or spend crazy amounts of money to work on their demo.

This is the case for this week’s artist, Trotta, who’s been rapping since the tender age of 14.

The now 21-year-old rapper from Long Island, New York, makes all his music off his MacBook at his house using GarageBand.

“It probably doesn’t sound like it,” he said. “I know it’s kinda shitty, but it doesn’t sound too bad.”

Most of his tracks are either remakes or freestyles of popular songs from established artists, which he adds his own lyrics to.

On his most recent track he spits some witty lines over one of Kanye West’s newest songs, “Fade,” off of Kanye’s newest album ‘TLOP.’

Although ‘TLOP’ just dropped this month, Trotta dropped the song in January, before the majority of Yeezy fans even knew the song existed.

“About three or four months ago some DJ played the song in the club and someone on YouTube remade the beat,” he said. “So I grabbed the clip off YouTube made the song…it’s pretty cool that no one had the song and I was able to come out with it.”

Kanye, also happens to be a major musical influence for Trotta, who enjoys the way Kanye sings melodies on songs, most notably on the album, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.’

“I would listen to that album every single day,” he said.

Trotta, is hoping to attract a larger audience and hopes to eventually get signed.

His dedication shows, as last summer he interned at Republic Records, in their A&R department to familiarize himself with the music industry and what labels look for when scouting talent.

“I was trying to learn what it takes to get myself signed, and I would slipped some of my shit to people in the office,” he said as he chuckled. “[I] got good feedback, some people were shocked.”

This is just the beginning for Trotta, who says he has over 150 songs recorded he hasn’t “even put out yet.”
