Justin Credible’s Album Spotlight: What A Time To Be Alive – Drake & Future

imageAfter lots of rumors and speculation last week, Drizzy and Future released their album “What A Time To Alive”. Two artists that have had a crazy year so far; came together to give us a full project that sent the social media world in a frenzy. Before it’s full Itunes release, Drake and Future streamed the project via Drake’s Apple Music show on Beats 1 “OVO Sound Radio”.

“Man, what a time to be alive,” Drake reflects on “Big Rings.” It’s another one of those celebratory songs for us to rap along to while we’re in the club “turnt up” with our friends.

We’ve all had a couple days to sit with the album now and if you haven’t heard it, you must be under a rock. Drake and Future gave the world a few gems for the clubs and I can’t wait to go in on them.

Starting off, the whole album was executive produced by Metro Boomin. Metro is responsible for that special “bounce” that we all love to Future on. To hear Drake’s flow on this type of production is a really dope. “Digital Dash” is the first song off the album and it’s exactly what we all expected. It sounds very similar to their previous collaboration on “Where Ya At”.

Big Rings though! Soon as “Big Rings” comes on, it gives off that automatic feeling of celebration. Drizzy yells “Cuz, I got a really big team, and they need some really big rings.” Drake is good at making songs that make you and your squad feel like the sh*t while you’re riding around the city. We know he’s always been the one to put his team on. Rings, Championships, you feel me? It’s the ultimate song that you and your squad can relate to.

There’s also ballad type songs that we both know Future and Drake can do. Like “Diamonds Dancing”. A lot of talk around this track, some say Drake is going in on Nicki on the last verse, but I’m going to leave it at that.

Let’s get back to that turn up type joints like “I’m The Plug”. Drizzy verse, Future on the hook. A simple recipe to a simple song that can have anyone bouncing in their place.

Now, when JUMPMAN comes on! It’s a wrap! Jumpman got that vibe. You got Drake talking that boss man talk as usual and Future comes in with this cadence that flows so well with the record. The production is A1. Shouts to Metro Boomin. Mutombo with the B**ches you keep gettin’ rejected! Wooo!

To close off the album, they each have solo songs. Future has one titled “Jersey” and Drake comes with HEAT on his track titled 30 for 30 Freestyle. There’s so many bars and slight jabs at (insert rapper here), but we all know how that ends.
Drake raps about how he was listening to his own remix on Goapele’s “Closer To My Dreams” and realizing how much his life has changed.
Also noting that he can no longer rap with the same flow he had when he was 19. Which is understandable.

“What A Time To Be Alive”, indeed. They came and gave the Hip Hop industry a moment. I love the album, and appreciate both Future and Drake for giving us some unexpected music. If you haven’t grabbed it yet, make sure you go get it on iTunes.
