There’s been a petition set out to honor the late, great Nipsey Hussle, who was a loved member of his Crenshaw District community.
The petition proposes a name change for Slauson Avenue to Hussle Avenue on the corner of Crenshaw & Slauson where Nip spent his entire life trying to create change and giving back. Project Islamic Hope started the petition on Change.org with hopes of getting Councilman Harris-Dawson to change it.
“I started this petition because I knew Nipsey Hussle personally…he wasn’t just a rapper, he was a community icon,” said a statement from Project Islamic Hope.
Nipsey’s sudden and unexpected passing has not only shook the community in which he grew up but also all of Los Angeles and the hip-hop community. As of today the petition has received over 250,000 signatures. You can add to the rapidly increasing number by signing the petition here.
LA City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson knew #NipseyHussle personally, quoted his lyrics at news conf: “Bullets don’t have names and as long as they are flying all of us are in danger.” @KPCC @LAist pic.twitter.com/he3GiJH9mM
