In recent years, a new wave of hip-hop acts has emerged, awakening a newfound interest in L.A. hip-hop culture.
Starting Monday, April 18th, MTV News will be showcasing Los Angeles’ most buzzed about hip-hop talent. The week will start off with a double dose of Mixtape Monday highlighting Casey Veggies’ Sleeping In Class and Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon. The “New West Week” will include interviews with Odd Future, Black Hippy, Dom Kennedy, Pac Div and more.
All week, we’ll be bringing you interviews with these artists to watch, breaking it down into four categories: the Black Hippy, the Future, Up and Coming, the Party and the Underdog. Each day, MTV News’ Sway and our hip-hop beat team will focus on a theme and recap the following day.
It’s about damn time, right? Stay tuned.
Props to Steven Roberts.

Check out Pac Div performing “Anti-Freeze” and “Mayor.” The photographers dance and a few people make it rain. You’ll see.
Oh yeah, shout out to the girl that was yelling “suu woo” in my ear. You can definitely hear it in the videos.
