“I feel like I need to make this album to move on with my life and not have them old negative vibes and demons haunt me. This is that real.”
FUSE sits down with Kendrick Lamar to gather some insight on his debut album cover and other subjects you may have been wondering about, all in under four minutes. In the official artwork (above), released a few days ago, baby Kendrick sits on the lap of his gang-sign-throwing uncle with his baby bottle next to a 40 oz., presumably being shared by his uncles and grandfather who also appear in the polaroid. He goes to say, “that photo says so much about my life and about how I was raised in Compton and the things I’ve seen, just through them innocent eyes. You don’t see nobody else’s eyes but you see my eyes of innocence trying to figure out what is going on.”
The Top Dawg Ent. star also shares Dr. Dre’s advice, the difference between mixtapes and albums, why he pushed back his album and the truth about his latest single, “Swimming Pools.” Watch the entire interview below.
