Since ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul weren’t featured on the album, doesn’t mean the two were going to sit back quietly. Kendrick Lamar covers Complex’s “good kid, m.A.A.d city week”
To celebrate the release of good kid, m.A.A.d city, an album that sounds like a certified classic, Complex collaborated with Kendrick on a week filled with exclusive features, anchored by the next-level video cover you see above. After wrapping a color-saturated shoot in L.A. with photographer David Black, Kendrick kicked it with Complex assistant editor Ross Scarano, a card-carrying member of Section.80 who’s been rocking with Kendrick and Darkwing Duck since day one. Ross brings all that experience to bear in his cover story, which you can dive into right now. And that’s not all. We also got Kendrick on camera to break down his favorite cartoons and cereals (video posted above). Oh, and this whole Complex digital cover package is powered by Spotify, so it’s a fully multimedia experience. Strap on your headphones and keep checking back all week for more of that Black Hippy heat. It’s go time.
Kendrick Lamar sat down with the L.A. Leakers & Fuzz Fantab and broke down the acronym in his album title, good kid, m.A.A.d city, collaborating with T.I., new song he has with J.Cole, and working with Scoop DeVille on “Poetic Justice”.
Kendrick Lamar held two sold out shows back-to-back in Los Angeles last night and brought along two special surprise guests. The Club Nokia crowd lost their voices when T.I. and Dr. Dre hit the stage, respectively. Both veteran artists had nice things to say about the man of the hour, Kendrick, but Dre, being the true boss he is, let the crowd know he was behind his artist 300%.
“I got to let y’all know something, I’m so proud of this man right here. He’s been handling his business even before y’all knew he was signed and shit. He was like let’s keep that shit on the low, I don’t want nobody to know and he kept doing his fucking thing. He’s a true muthafuckin’ lyricist, a real muthafuckin’ MC and that’s what we need in muthafuckin’ hip-hop.”
Well said Dr. Dre. Watch the Doc join Kendrick for “Compton” and “The Recipe” in the video above and below, you can see the Kang join Kendrick for his own singles, “Go Get It” and “What You Know.”

This is the first track I’ve heard from the bluesy-soul singer, ZZ Ward, and I’m a fan now. I was obviously lured in with the Kendrick Lamar feature, which didn’t let down, of course. This single is off her upcoming album, Til The Casket Drops (not to be confused with The Clipse’s album), which will be released October 16th but you can pre-order that project here. If you’re in LA, you can catch her perform at Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood on Saturday, flyer is posted above. From the sound of her music, it must be even better with a live band!
