Video: MTV News’ New West Week With Odd Future, Casey Veggies & More (Teaser)
In recent years, a new wave of hip-hop acts has emerged, awakening a newfound interest in L.A. hip-hop culture.
Starting Monday, April 18th, MTV News will be showcasing Los Angeles’ most buzzed about hip-hop talent. The week will start off with a double dose of Mixtape Monday highlighting Casey Veggies’ Sleeping In Class and Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon. The “New West Week” will include interviews with Odd Future, Black Hippy, Dom Kennedy, Pac Div and more.
All week, we’ll be bringing you interviews with these artists to watch, breaking it down into four categories: the Black Hippy, the Future, Up and Coming, the Party and the Underdog. Each day, MTV News’ Sway and our hip-hop beat team will focus on a theme and recap the following day.
It’s about damn time, right? Stay tuned.
Props to Steven Roberts.
Video: Dom Kennedy, Freddie Gibbs & Casey Veggies At Fader Showcase (MTV RapFix)
Props to MTV News covering events that showcase independent and upcoming artists. A little birdie told me that MTV News will be airing segments highlighting LA hip hop artists in a few weeks. Yes!
The free Fader event, which took place Tuesday, had three solid acts, Dom Kennedy, Freddie Gibbs and Casey Veggies. Gangsta Gibbs, who recently signed with Young Jeezy’s label, Corporate Thugz Entertainment, is preparing to release his next project, Baby Faced Killa. West coast MC Dom Kennedy is prepping Westside With Love 2 and is leaning toward a May release for the project. It seemed like one hell of a show. Salty I had to miss it.
Our own LA Leaker and ex-convict DJ SourMilk even had a mention in the RapFix article. Woot!
Video: Casey Veggies Live At Paid Dues 2011
Paid Dues is such an appropriate title for this large independent music festival. All of the acts have been working hard to get the recognition they finally deserve. Check out Waveisode #89 which features Casey Veggies performing at Paid Dues for the first time. Salute.
