The F is for Free.
After seven years of hype, anticipation, and anger for the wait, Lil Wayne has finally unleashed his long-awaited ‘Tha Carter V’ album and fifth installment in his ‘Carter’ series that begun in 2004 with ‘Tha Carter’.
On the 23-track album, Lil Wayne calls on some of the industry’s top acts like Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Snoop Dogg, Ashanti, and the late XXXtentaction for contributions. Weezy’s babymomma Nivea and daughter Reginae are also featured on ‘C5’.
The album was originally supposed to be released in 2014 but was held up after his lengthy legal battle with Birdman and Cash Money Records over unpaid royalties. Earlier this year Birdman freed Wayne from his obligations with Cash Money and struck a multi-million dollar settlement.
‘Tha Carter V’ is Tunechi’s first career album that is released without Cash Money, as it comes via Young Money/Republic Records. Young Money is solely owned by Wayne and will continue to be distributed through Republic Records.
