Ice Cube is one of the main people who helped birth the West Coast hip-hop scene and brought it to prominence. Having broke out with supergroup N.W.A. in the late 80’s, Cube gained attention with tough lyrics that spoke out against police brutality, while also tackling other issues people in the inner-city faced everyday. From the music he crossed over to acting and has been equally successful.
Today the Don Mega finally received his long overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With friends and family in the audience, Cube showed his appreciation for everyone who’s helped him in his career. Dr. Dre, WC, MC Ren, DJ Yella, Sir Jinx, Yo-Yo, DJ Pooh, and John Singleton were among the names he mentioned.
“You don’t get here by yourself,” he said. “When you’re coming up doing music, movies, just trying to be creative, you never figure you’ll be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame one day. So today is not really about Ice Cube, it’s about all the people who helped me get here.”
As of today June 12th is now recognized as “Ice Cube Day” in LA. It really was a good day.
