XXL 2016 Freshman Class List

XXL revealed their Freshman Class of 2016 and it included some names that have been making a lot of noise.

Previous names that have made the cut in the past include J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Chance The Rapper Ab-Soul and many others.

Here’s the this year’s selections for the 9th annual list:

  • Anderson .Paak (Oxnard, CA)
  • 21 Savage (Atlanta, GA)
  • Kodak Black (Pompano Beach, FL)
  • Lil Uzi Vert (Philadelphia, PA)
  • Lil Dicky (Cheltenham Township, PA)
  • Dave East (Harlem, NY)
  • Denzel Curry (Carol City, FL)
  • Desiigner (Brooklyn, NY)
  • G Herbo (Chicago, IL)
  • Lil Yachty (Atlanta, GA) – was the 10th pick, selected by the fans

The issue hits newsstands June 28th which is also the same day as the Freshman concert in New York City.

Kendrick Lamar Covers XXL Magazine (News)

K Dot graced the cover of XXL’s 2015 winter issue! Inside the mag he opens up about on the success and controversy of To Pimp A Butterfly, and more. You can cop the issue on December 22.

I know I’m chosen. I know I’m a favorite. I know in my heart there’s a whole other energy and leadership side of me that I have probably run from my whole life. How much power do I want? How much can I handle? That’s the question I keep asking myself. ’Cause when you are a voice for the youth, nothing can stop you. The youth is what changes things. Can I lead that? Should I? I get confused because people are championing me to be that vocal point and it’s a challenge for me to be that because I have some fear of that type of power. This goes back to me being who I naturally am or who think that I am now, that 28-year-old kid that’s kind’ve a recluse. But 28 is old enough for me to figure out who I am and have that power at the same time, that’s the battle and it’s a trip.

Kendrick Lamar Covers XXL Magazine (News)

Kendrick Lamar graced the cover of XXL Magazine latest issue. XXL granted Kendrick the chance to write about himself, K Dot speaks on one of his biggest battles is embracing leadership, the success of g.o.o.d m.A.A.d city, and much more.

A lot of times in interviews, people ask me things like, “How does it feel now? What have you bought your mom and your pops and family?” Nobody ever really asks about what it’s like trying to adapt to fame and money and how much of a depression it can make for you. How much of a depression it could put you in knowing that so many kids hang on to your words. I can’t make a song like “i” without being in that dark place. “i” comes from going overseas, going to New York, being in L.A. and hearing kids saying, “Kendrick, I was gonna kill myself last week. Section.80, good kid, m.A.A.d city saved my life.” Or “I was gonna kill myself tonight until I came to your show.”
