To celebrate the 25th anniversary of his classic ‘Death Certificate’ album, Ice Cube drops a special edition rerelease including original songs and three new ones to go along with the theme of the album, which speaks against social injustice and police brutality.
Originally released in October of 1991, Cube’s sophomore album included singles like “Steady Mobbin,” “A Bird in the Hand,” and “No Vaseline”. It touched on a lot of social and racial issues stemming from the 1991 Rodney King beating by the LAPD.
Years later a lot of the same issues are still occuring in cities across the United States and it seems that police brutality is at an all-time high. On the three new tracks, “Only One Me,” “Good Cop, Bad Cop,” and “Dominate The Weak” Cube puts the focus on those topics.
