Common Discusses His Memoir “Let Love Have The Last Word,” Ranks His Albums, Talks Relationship With Kanye & More [WATCH]

Rapper, actor, author, among many other titles, the man himself Common stopped by the Power 106 #LIFTOFF to chop it up with Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk about his new music, personal favorite albums, working with J Dilla, relationship with Kanye West, and more.

While discussing his new book “Let Love Have The Last Word,” the Chicago rapper shares a part where he talks about his daughter confronting him and saying he was not being a good father in her eyes, which in turn lead them to having an open discussion and growing closer because of it. DJ Sourmilk is about to have his first daughter and asks Common what his best fatherly advice is, which he states

“The biggest thing I expressed to her was if you give her the love she deserves, she’ll know her value. I made sure she knew she was of value,” he said about raising a young queen.

Common has been in the rap game for many years progressing with his sound and explains his secret to staying relevant for so long:

“I just believe that my love for music and hip hop culture and writing has always driven me to want to be better and grow. I don’t stay in one place, none of my albums sound the same. Musically I take chances. Those type of albums allow you to have a longer career… Being true to yourself is key, but that goes for knowing yourself too.

Hip-Hop Legend Common Delivers Monumental Bars On #Freestyle081 [WATCH]

About a year-ago I put out a tweet that asked fans who they wanna see freestyle next on our series and we received a response from a hip-hop legend, Common that said, “Me!” Well, that came to fruition with Common stopping by the Power 106 #LIFTOFF to spit bars and he did not disappoint on #Freestyle081.

The hip-hop icon chose to go in over two of his own beats which are his classic “I Used To Love H.E.R.” along with the instrumental for his new song “HER Love,” which is produced by the legendary J Dilla.

Common went off the top of the head like dandruff on this freestyle for about six-minutes and references things around him in the studio. Using a play on words with “Freestyle 81” he shouts out Kobe for his legendary 81-point game back in 2006 against the Toronto Raptors, which is the second highest scoring total in NBA history.

“This is the story when I get it done, I’m sorta scoring like Kobe 81.” Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk had Common’s entire discography in front of him which he grabs various CDs and raps about them during the freestyle and it is legendary.

Ski Mask The Slump God Confirms Joint Album w/ Juice WRLD, Teases Lauryn Hill Collab & More [WATCH]

Florida man Ski Mask the Slump God dropped in to the Power 106 #LIFTOFF show to check-in with Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk. They talked about upcoming music, working with Juice WRLD on a collaborative project, the Dreamville “Revenge of the Dreamers” studio sessions, and more.

Following his birthday, the homies ask what he did to celebrate and he responded by saying, “skiing, ski gotta go skiing.” Also, if you ever wanted to know what the best gift to get Slump God for his birthday it is Hennessy.

The “Faucet Failure” rapper goes on to discuss new music in the works, more particularly a new EP that will include features from Chance the Rapper and hopefully Lauryn Hill. This project is one he describes as “meaningful and genuine music.” In the midst of that project, he confirms a joint effort with Juice Wrld titled Evil Twins is in the works as well. Between the two rappers, their differences in their process of creating music complement each other and make each other better.

Justin asks Ski Mask about his tattoos and how he got into them and explains that it was something him and Jaseh (Xxxtentacion) used to do. X would get one which would make him want to get one as well. On a deeper level, he notes that getting the tattoos on his face among other places was a way of saying to himself there is no turning back on being a rapper.

The Slump God talked about the epic Revenge of the Dreamers sessions with Dreamville that went down earlier this year. Of course, J.Cole was there the entire time but explains how he didn’t even get an opportunity to meet him since he was in another studio. He goes on to detail what it was like being in the studio with the team and adds “There’s no better feeling than people that you care about or you respect, appreciates or f***s with what you’re doing.. You care about that more than anyone else’s opinion.”

Being a previous XXL Freshman class member, DJ Sourmilk asked the Slump God who he would like to see on the 2019 list and shares he already knows the whole list!! The guys tried to get him to spill the tea but he didn’t reveal much.

Before heading out J Creddy had to hit Ski Mask with “Just In Time” asking him random questions in 60 seconds, watch his answers below as well as the rest of the interview with the L.A. Leakers.
