Nelly’s ‘Country Grammar’ Becomes 8th Hip-Hop Album To Receive RIAA Diamond Certification

Nelly was one of the hottest rappers of the early 2000s. His debut studio album, ‘Country Grammar’ sold over 235-thousand copies in its first week, and last night the RIAA surprised the Midwest rapper with a Diamond plaque at a Musicians On Call event in Philadelphia, PA.

Diamond plaque is a very rare feat that has only been accomplished by five other hip-hop acts being 2-Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, Outkast and MC Hammer.

Country Grammar’ is now alongside great albums like: 2-Pac’s ‘All Eyez On Me,’ ‘Greatest Hits,’ Eminem’s ‘The Eminem Show,’ ‘The Marshall Mathers LP,’ Biggie’s ‘Life After Death,’ Outkast’s ‘Speakerboxxx/The Love Below,’ and MC Hammer’s ‘Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em.’

The milestone marks the album has achieved a staggering 10-million copies sold. With singles “Country Grammar (Hot Shit),” “E.I,” “Ride With Me,” and “Batter Up” on the album it is not surprising it sold as many copies, as three of those four singles went Gold.

Congrats, Nelly on the accomplishment!
