Dr. Dre Gets Mashed Up With Kendrick Lamar On ‘The DAMN. Chronic’ [STREAM]

What does a classic Compton collaboration consist of? Perhaps a mash-up of Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar mashed up with the best of their discographies.

Well, DJ Critical Hype did just that on his ‘The DAMN. Chronic’ mixtape, where he blended some of Dr. Dre’s best production and put some of Kompton Kenny’s verses over it. Critical Hype went along to combine that with a slew of guest appearances from Nate Dogg, Jay Rock, Pusha T, and more.

“Kendrick has so many flows, voices, and styles, plus Dre beats are really incredible, so I figured it would be dope,” Critical Hype told Pigeons & Planes. “I was determined to make it work, but the truth is it wasn’t easy. A lot of the tempos actually didn’t mix well. It was a lot more work trying to find good mixes. I had to dig deep.”

On the opening track Critical Hype takes Eminem’s “My Name Is…” and puts K. Dot’s vocals over it. He continues on “The Heart Pt. 2” by adding Lamar’s vicious verses over Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang.” Throughout the tape he continues flipping other classic like “Lil Ghetto Boy,” using Kendrick’s killer “Control” verse over “Murder Was the Case,” and more.

This isn’t the first time Critical Hype has done this type of mashup. He first went viral with ‘Chance the Dropout’, where he mashed Kanye West and Chance the Rapper’s projects.

Dr. Dre Hints At Potential ‘Detox’ Album Release [PEEP]

While stopping by the Golden State Warriors practice facility on Tuesday, Dr. Dre spoke to ESPN’s Chris Haynes for a brief interview, where he disclosed some information regarding his long-awaited ‘Detox’ album.

Haynes got straight to the point when speaking to Dre and asked him about the mythical album. Wasting no time, Haynes asked the legendary rapper/producer if ‘Detox’  was permanently shelved and Dre responded by saying, “I’m working on a couple songs right now. We’ll see.”

Check out the original tweet below.

Dre’s ‘Detox’ album has been rumored since the early 2000s and announced around 2002. From there fuel has continusiouly been added to the fire as pictures of Dre in the studio have surfaced. Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Lil Wayne, Eve, Akon, Alicia Keys, and others have been rumored to have contributed on the album.

Following the rumors Dre released “I Need A Doctor” featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey and “Kush” featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon, which were believed to be part of the ‘Detox’ roll out. The Doctor eventually came out and said he was scraping the album and dropped ‘Compton: The Soundtrack’ back in 2015 instead.

This is the biggest development on the ‘Detox’ front since Dre said he shelved it for good in 2015. Let’s see if we finally get the album this year. Stay tuned for updates.

Dr. Dre Reveals The Release Date For Eminem’s ‘Revival’ Album [PEEP]

The time has finally come for the official release date of Eminem’s long-awaited, highly-anticipated ‘Revival’ album. In a Tweet Dr. Dre shared a video of a medication video, that was used to announce his “Walk On Water” single. The video revealed the release date of December 15th. In the caption Dre wrote, “Use as prescribed by your doctor. @Eminem.”

‘Revival’ will be Eminem’s eighth studio album and ninth album overall. It comes four years after Em dropped his The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ album. The album was originally supposed to drop November 15th with no press, but it comes now with minimal press. As we know, Em don’t really need any press to move units.

There isn’t much information album other than the December 15th release date and that it will include the Rick Rubin-produced “Walk On Water,” which debuted at No. 14 but sunk down to No. 55 in its second week. If Eminem’s track record stays true, the album should be laced with fire.

Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.

New Music: Dr. Dre – “Gunfiyah” [LISTEN]

the-defiant-ones

In an interview with Uproxx director Allen Hughes said that Dr. Dre is constantly working on music and “records every day.” Whatever Dre is working on is going to be magical. On his HBO special “The Defiant Ones,” the legend let off a new track called “Gunfiyah.”

“The Defiant Ones” director Allen Hughes went on to share more saying, “Literally, he’s in there recording songs every day. He’s like Picasso in that way. He’s always painting. Right now he’s producing, in the 11th hour, a track for Eminem’s latest album. So Dre’s still real active in music, you know?””

One could make the conclusion that aside from working on Eminem’s next album, Dre might just be cooking up some stuff of his own. Maybe it won’t be the ‘Detox’, but something tells me Dre got some more shit coming.

Listen to “Gunfiyah” below.

Dr. Dre Donates $10-Million To Compton High School For Performing Arts Center [PEEP]

la-et-ms-performing-arts-center-20170615

Dr. Dre was named one of hip-hop’s wealthiest people by Forbes earlier this year. Using some of that fortune the rap icon has pledged to donate $10-million to Compton High School for a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center.

“My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve,” Dre said in a statement to The L.A. Times. “The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.”

The new center will provide students with state-of -the-art equipment and essentials they need to thrive in the field. A 1,200-seat theater will be installed along with a digital media production facility. Students will have everything they need to complete their studies.

Students attending Compton High School won’t be the only ones to benefit from the complex, as it will also be a resource center for the Compton community at large according to the L.A. Times.

Dre won’t only be involved by donating, but he will also be an advocate to find sponsors and be directly involved to raise the remaining funds needed to finish the center by the target date of 2020.

“The support that Dre has shown to Compton over the years is unwavering and we are so excited that we will now be home to one of the greatest performing arts centers in the country,” said Satra Zurita, president of Compton Unified’s governing board of trustees.

Beginning July 9th Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s HBO series “The Defiant Ones” will air. The show will highlight the bond between the two and include appearances from Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar.

Check Out The “Forbes Five” Hip-Hop Wealthiest Artist List Of 2017 [PEEP]

C_eSKqOU0AAJ5GZ

Once again Music Mogul/Businessman/Entrepreneur, Diddy tops the “Forbes Five” hip-hop’s wealthiest artist of 2017 list.

With a staggering $820-million estate, Diddy is closing in on billionaire status and takes the crown of hip-hop’s wealthiest acts again. His fortune comes mostly from his very lucrative Ciroc deal with Diageo, Revolt TV network, alkaline water brand AquaHydrate, Deleon Tequila, his “Bad Boy Reunion Tour,” and other unspecified investments. No Dirty Money needed here (pun intended).

Jay-Z isn’t too far from Diddy and is sure to become a billionaire soon as well. If you combine his fortune with wifey, Beyoncé’s they’ve already reached billionaire status. Hov’s hefty bank comes from his TIDAL streaming service, which is worth more than 10x than what the rapper paid for it. Sprint’s $200-million investment in the company also doesn’t hurt. Jay is also making money from selling his Roc Nation logo, which he was paid $200-million for,  as well as being a majority owner of Roc Nation, his film-TV deal with The Weinstein Company, and other side ventures.

Coming in at third place is LA’s very own, Dr. Dre. The Doctor is worth a reported $740-million with earnings from his 2014 selling of Beats headphones to Apple for $3-billion, a 14,000 square foot mansion in LA, which is now worth 20-percent more than the $40-million he purchased it for, other real estate property, royalties, and side ventures.

Birdman might not be paying his artists and maybe that’s why he’s eating so good. The Cash Money head-honcho takes the No. 4 slot with $110-million, thanks mostly to the success of Cash Money superstars like Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne. Put some “respek” on that.

Cash Money recording artist, Drake follows his boss with a No. 5 standing. Drizzy’s $90-million fortune is owed to the success of his music, touring, OVO record label and clothing, his Virginia Black whiskey, Apple music deal, and Nike and Jordan partnerships.

Who will become a billionaire first? Tell us in the comments below.

“FORBES FIVE” HIP-HOP LIST 2017

1. Diddy – $820 million
2. Jay Z – $810 million
3. Dr. Dre – $740 million
4. Birdman – $110 million
5. Drake – $90 million

Reports are flying that Dr. Dre may be joining Snoop Dogg next month at Tupac Shakur’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Snoop is already listed to be leading the tribute, while Dre is in the process of signing on.

According to sources the Death Row reunion is very likely with Dre “close” to completing the process. Insiders say that the tribute between the two West Coast legends will include a performance of at least three songs.

For fans of the culture this tribute will be EPIC. Both Dre and Snoop rocking the stage, as Pac’s name gets engraved to one of the most celebrated Hall of Fames in the industry. Perhaps they can do a redo of Coachella and get a Tupac hologram as well? Boy, that’d be something.

Pac’s induction will take place April 7th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Pearl Jam, Journey, Yes, Joan Baez, and Electric Light Orchestra will also be inducted.
