Being signed to Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack label has really elevated New York rapper Sheck Wes, who stopped by the Power 106 #LIFTOFF to talk to Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk about meeting Travis, getting his music to him, and more.

During the interview Sheck detailed his upbringing and splitting time growing up between New York and Milwaukee. He also shared a story of being sent back to his native Africa by his mother.

“I never spent a summer in Milwaukee. Every summer I was always in New York. And, my Dad had a lot of cds and a lot of albums and stuff. I used to take them and one of the first ones I got was ‘Ready To Die.’ So I got into music young and old school music young. Then I would be in a sneaker store in Milwaukee, where it was a lot of old heads and they were all into music…they had me in the sneaker store as an apprentice and they’d be playing mad old school music,” he said.

Sheck goes on to share stories of how he gave up on his hoop dreams to pursue music, ditching his team’s playoff game to his Kanye West’s YEEZY fashion show, and more.
