jhene-aiko-trip-1

Having recently announced a short film that was going to be accompanied by a book of poetry, Jhene Aiko seemed to be gearing up for an album rollout. Instead the beautiful songstress releases her surprise album, ‘Trip’.

‘Trip’ follows Jhene’s 2014 effort, ‘Souled Out’, which she also released with a short film titled “Girls Trip.” Over 22 songs Jhene takes listeners on “epic, psychedelic journey beyond the boundaries of R&B.”

Collaborates include with her beau, Big Sean on “Moments,” John Mayer on “New Balance,” Brandy on “Ascension,” Swae Lee on “Sativa,” the OG Kurupt on “Never Call Me,” TWENTY88 on “OLLA,” her father Dr. Chill, daughter Namiko Love, and others.

Yesterday she dropped her “Map Mission” spoken word, where she detailed the pain she has been going through since the loss of her brother Miyagi’s death in 2012. The death of her sibling has taken her on a ride trying to find herself and rekindle the love and warmth her brother brought to her heart.

“My brother and I were very close. We were only two years apart,” she says in “Map Mission.” “I never thought of him as a separate person, but an extension of myself. He was my reflection. In his presence I was confident and always so sure.”

Next week it is expected Jhene will release her full-length short film to accompany this album. In the meantime stream ‘Trip’ below.

Miguel’s New Album Titled Announced & He Performs On “The Late Show” [WATCH]

miguel-colbert

It should come as no surprise that Miguel has been working on an album. After releasing “Shockandawe” and “Sky Walker” featuring Travis Scott, the singer took “The Late Show” stage to perform the latter single, while Stephen Colbert announced Miguel’s next album will be titled ‘War & Leisure’.

Playing the guitar and backed up by other guitarists and a bass player, Miguel performed the stripped-down version of “Sky Walker” minus Scott. The background visuals also stayed true to the single’s artwork, as images of war flashed on the screen.

Watch below.

Stephen Colbert brought Miguel back out to perform his raunchy single from last year, “Come Through and Chill.” Check out that performance below.

Screen Shot 2017-09-20 at 9.40.02 PM

A few weeks ago I premiered Bay Area rapper, Caleborate’s new, soulful single, “Soul.” Today the Berkeley project unleashes the simple but vibey visuals, where he hangs in a parking lot and words from the song pop-up throughout. This video is co-directed by Caleb and Adrian Per.

“Soul” is the first single off Caleborate’s forthcoming ‘Real Person’ project, expected to drop in the Fall.

Watch the video below and support this real hip-hop. Caleborate continues to be slept on, but I been rocking with bro since day 1. Don’t worry, when he blows up I’ll be there to look at you and tell you, “I told you so.”

New Music: Hi-Tone – “The Voice” [LISTEN]

unnamed

Mexican-American rapper, Hi-Tone uses his platform to exercise “The Voice.” On the single he calls out the music industry and represents for his people. Hi-Tone’s “The Voice” song is a very defiant one that is long overdue with everything going on.

“With everything that’s going on in the world right now, i couldn’t help but think we all have a voice and we can’t be scared to use it. They can hold us back, box us in or push us away but they can never take our words from us,” he said. “I believe every artist is a spokesperson for a group of people and we hold a responsibility to them to represent how they feel. Now you’re either going to love me or hate me, there’s no in between. But stop looking at my skin color and start listening to my words because i am the voice.”

Billboard premiered the single, which was accompanied with a video and Hi-Tone was labeled a “Artist on the Rise.”
